An Unusual Photoshoot by a professional photographer in Sydney, Manly Beach


I've been contacted by this lovely person who, as I found out on our first call, was Hungarian too! (I'm mixed nationality, and one of them is Hungarian as well.) It was such a nice surprise, and we had a little chat in our shared language. When she first reached out, I had no idea what the assignment was, but I quickly learned that many photographers had already turned it down. Initially, I thought I would do the same.


This session was something different: four couples and a baby saying goodbye to their dear (not just) surfing friends as they prepared to move back to Europe. As a farewell gift, they wanted a Sydney photoshoot to capture these special moments on Manly Beach.


As a family and couples photographer, my instinct was to decline as well—eight surfers and a baby on a busy beach? That’s not my usual setup! But I love a challenge, so I took it on. And I’m so glad I did.

The Magic of a Manly Beach Photoshoot


Manly Beach is one of Sydney’s most iconic locations, perfect for everything from engagement photoshoots to family portraits. But this wasn’t just a typical Northern Beaches photoshoot. Instead of the usual romantic couples or playful family moments, I was capturing the energy and friendship of a close-knit group who had spent years together surfing, laughing, and sharing life by the waves.


The beach gave us the perfect backdrop—the golden hour glow with a bit of dramatic sky, the rolling waves, and, of course, the iconic Manly surf culture. We took fun, candid shots of them running along the shoreline, messing around with their surfboards, and just being together. It was all about preserving their connection before life took them in different directions.

Why This Sydney Photoshoot Was Special


What made this session truly unique was its raw, emotional energy. It wasn’t about different portraits; it was about real friendships and real moments. I love being a Sydney professional portrait photographer, but sessions like these remind me that photography is about more than just capturing smiles—it’s about telling a story.


And yes, it was a challenge! Coordinating eight adults and making sure everyone looked great in the shots (while keeping the baby happy in between) took some creativity. But seeing the final images, full of joy and nostalgia, made it all worth it. (Due to privacy reasons photos with a baby are not presented in this blog)

A Farewell to Remember
