When it comes to choosing the perfect spot for a family photoshoot in Mosman, Balmoral Beach is always at the top of my list. It’s hard to imagine a better backdrop, whether you’re bringing along your furry friends or not. The stunning views, soft sand, and calm atmosphere make it the ideal location for capturing those special moments.

Before every session, I like to connect with my clients—whether it’s through a call, video chat, or, my favourite, a personal meet-up—to walk them through the entire process from start to finish. It’s important that everyone enjoys the session, so we make sure to agree on all the details (that we can agree on) ahead of time.
Since we both live in Mosman, Sally and I met up for a coffee to discuss everything—location, the best time of day, and even outfits. We also talked about her two dogs, Rex and Leo, and how they would fit into the shoot. We went over the family photoshoot contract too, just to make sure everything was clear. While online calls are always an option in today’s world, I still prefer meeting in person whenever possible. It just feels more personal and helps set the tone for a relaxed, fun family photoshoot.

After our meet-up, we had everything perfectly planned out. But, as luck would have it, the day we originally chose brought rain and a whirlwind of wind—like a mini tornado right at our spot! We quickly rescheduled, and I’m so glad we did because the new time gave us the most gorgeous light. It turned into one of those amazing Mondays you can only dream of, a truly happy Monday!
We explored the south side of Balmoral Beach and the park, which is a beautiful spot with plenty of shade from the trees in the park. We played some fun games and did a few poses, all while making sure to take advantage of the stunning light. It was a bit challenging since Rex, being in his senior years, had me worried about tiring him out. But honestly, Rex seemed to enjoy the shoot as much as everyone else.
The dogs were showered with cuddles, and Mom and Dad got plenty of hugs from their teenage kids. All in all, I’d say it was a win for everyone!
