Planning the Perfect Proposal in Sydney


Spencer (aka our lead) found me the way many modern love stories begin — online. He was researching the best spot for a surprise proposal in Sydney and landed on my blog post from a previous session at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair (yep, this one right here!).

He was sold on the location — and the photos — because soon enough, I got a message from him in my inbox. ✉️

From there, we jumped on my usual planning video call (if you're curious, I spill all my proposal-planning secrets in this blog post). We chatted through the logistics: where to stand, when to pop the question, how to keep it all a secret from Isabel — you know, just casually planning one of the biggest moments of his life. Capturing the Big Moment the surprise proposal at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair in Sydney


Spencer and Isabel had been exploring Australia for a few days, enjoying their holiday adventure. By the time the day of the proposal arrived, they were full of energy and excitement — ready for another unforgettable moment.

The weather forecast? A bit of a chaos. Rain, winds, the whole drama. But the weather gods must have been on our side (once again I was lucky) because we ended up with the most beautiful, sunny afternoon. I tucked myself into a sneaky spot with a perfect view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, blending in like a very professional tourist.

Spencer led Isabel to the lookout point with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge painting the perfect backdrop.

Cue Spencer dropping to one knee.

Cue Isabel realising what was happening.

Cue ALL the emotions — happy smile, pure laughter, and the kind of magic that fills the whole air.

After the proposal — once the hugs and happiness had settled a little — Isabel even asked if someone could snap a photo of them... and that’s when Spencer pointed out I had actually been there all along, capturing every moment. (Mission: accomplished!)


The whole afternoon was nothing short of magical — one of those surprise proposal photoshoots in Sydney where everything just clicks perfectly.

Post-Proposal Celebration and photoshoot: Strolling Through the Royal Botanic Gardens to reach the icon - Sydney Opera house


After the big "YES!" moment, we strolled through the Royal Botanic Gardens, soaking in the excitement (and squeezing in more photos, of course).

Spencer and Isabel’s energy was just contagious — so much love, so much laughter. Honestly, moments like these are what charge my soul. I basically live off your happiness!

These two were SO easy to photograph. Natural, joyful, always up for a giggle — basically a photographer’s dream team.

We slowly made our way to the Opera House (because if you’re doing a proposal photoshoot in Sydney, you’re not skipping that shot), stopping here and there for photos. The light? Golden. The mood? Magical. The happiness? Off the charts.


And then — as all fairytales should — they headed off to their dinner reservation, full of love and probably still buzzing from the surprise.
