Choosing the Right Location for a secret proposal photoshoot in sydney

Sydney offers plenty of romantic locations 📍 for your proposal.

Consider her/his preferences. Think about your partner's personality. Does she love the hustle and bustle of the city 🌇 or the sand and sea on the beach 🏖️? Choosing a location that resonates with her/him will make the proposal even more meaningful.

Think about a location that might be special for you for some reason. Like you had your first kiss there, or that was the place you met, or anything similar.

When planning a photoshoot - even without a secret proposal - you need to have great light. So that's something to think about.

I think I do not have to say that it is important, that you and your loved one are both dressed nicely. Your appearances are neat, and you will want to avoid wearing a lot of colours or clothing that has advertisements or huge signs. 🕺

It could be difficult for you to tell your loved one how to dress and keep the proposal a secret, but I can assure you that he or she will appreciate it when the photographer is revealed. Your first option is to have a paparazzi-style photo shoot. This is a type, where your photographer will blend in with a crowd and pretend to be a tourist with a camera or a landscape photographer photographing sights. This option works perfectly in very popular locations, such as Sydney Opera House, The Rocks, Hickson Road Reserve, Barangaroo, Observatory Hill or any busy location.

2. Regular Couple's Photoshoot in SYdney

Another option is to arrange a regular photo shoot without letting your significant other know that you will propose. This option is perfect for people who want to propose in a more private setting where a photographer wouldn't be able to hide very well.

3. Hide & Seek Paparazzi PHOTOSHOOT

The third and final option is NOT recommended since it can be suspicious. If you'd like a very intimate setting, with no people around, your photographer can carefully hide in a bush or behind something in order to capture the surprise.

Once you decide on how and where you will propose and how you would like it to be photographed, you will need to start coordinating the secret proposal with your photographer 📷

You will need to make sure you have all the details worked out, so it goes as smoothly as possible. You should discuss location options with your photographer, and once you choose a place, you will need to communicate the exact spot and how you will be standing. This allows you and the photographer to make sure the background and all the details are perfect in the photos.

Agree on a Spot

Proposing in Sydney and getting photographs taken of this special moment is once in a life time scene.

I highly recommend that you clarify the exact spot of the proposal with a print screen from Google street view, or previously taken photos from the location, so there is no confusion and the photographer can be prepared for the big moment.

You already know the location. After that you will want to make sure that the photographer knows the exact time you plan to propose (considering the light as stated in the beginning of this article).

Work with your photographer and listen to his or her suggestions, so you can make sure that you get the best lighting for your photos. Most photographers will suggest you propose around sunset for the best lighting, which is perfect since that’s already such a romantic setting.

Share All the Details

Lastly, you will want to make sure the photographer has seen photos of you and your significant other so he or she will be able to recognise you. It will be helpful if you also let him or her know what you will be wearing. If you are able to keep it a secret, you should have a way to communicate with the photographer on that day, so you can let them know if everything is going according to the plan.

Tips for the perfect shots when the Big Moment comes

1. Playing it cool and Taking it slow 🕰️

When you get down on one knee - if that's your preferred position for proposal - don’t rush it. Consider staying in that position a little longer, so that your loved one can fully understand and enjoy the moment. This also gives the photographer more opportunity to get the perfect shot.

2. Stay Focused

Hopefully, it isn't hard to keep your focus on your loved one, but you may be tempted to look at the photographer. Please avoid this as best as you can, so you don’t ruin the magical moment, and keep the photos candid. Enjoy this once in a lifetime moment by hugging, kissing, and holding each other. You can always introduce yourself to the photographer later!

3. The Ring is the Star 💍

It might be a silly reminder, but with online presents nowadays, it is worth to say. You should only have the ring in your hands. You will NOT want to be holding on to your phone or a camera when you are proposing.

The best photos would be of you holding the ring or the ring box. Please, try to avoid having your wallet or phone in your trouser pockets, because that doesn’t photograph well.

Your proposal photos will also look better if you can avoid holding bags or backpacks, so the main focus is on you, your loved one, and the ring.
